How to Make and Receive Calls Using Wyoming Relay
To Receive a Call from a TTY User
- If you hear, "Hello, a person is calling you through Wyoming Relay," and the agent number when you answer the phone, DON'T HANG UP. This means a TTY user is calling you through Wyoming Relay. Upon request, a Wyoming Relay CA will explain how the service works.
- Speak in a normal voice. The CA will type your message to the TTY user, and repeat his/her typed reply to you out loud. When the CA says, "Go ahead," it is your turn to speak.
- Remember to say "Go ahead" at the end of your replies. This lets the TTY user know it is his/her turn to respond.
To Call a TTY User
- Dial 7-1-1 or 1-800-877-9975 for the Voice relay number.
- Give the CA any speacial call handling instructions, then the area code and phone number you want to call.
- The CA will dial the number and will tell the TTY user that you are on the line. Once the connection is made, speak in a normal voice. The CA will type your message to the TTY user. He/she will type a reply and the CA will read it out loud to you. It is your turn to speak again when the CA says, "Go ahead."
Tips
- TTY users may relay calls by dialing 7-1-1 or 1-800-877-9965.
- Tell the CA your long distance service billing preference if it is something other than Sprint (calling card, third-party call, collect call, or other long distance carrier). Local calls are free.
- Do not hesitate to tell the CA if you prefer a male or female CA.
- Speak directly to the TTY user, not the CA.
- Speak slowly and clearly. CAs are trained to type everything you say and voice everything a TTY user types.
- Remeber that the CA will type everything that he/she hears, including background noises and side conversations.
- TTY users may request the CAs to use a personal greeting rather than the standard Wyoming Relay greeting. For example:
"Hi! This is Dusty. I'm speaking through Wyoming Relay. May I speak with Steve? Go ahead."
- Say "SK," which stands for "Stop Keying," when you are ready to end the call.
- For questions or any complaints, you can call the Wyoming Relay Service state office at 1-800-452-1408 V/TTY, or Customer Service at 1-800-676-3777 V/TTY.
