VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION SERVICES

Supported Employment Programs

The Department of Workforce Services' Vocational Rehabilitation Division's Supported Employment Programs rehabilitate persons having the most significant disabilities who need on-the-job training and follow-up support to maintain community-integrated employment. Supported employment programs are designed to work with individuals who have not traditionally been vocationally-rehabilitated. Supported employment services are provided through numerous community rehabilitation programs (CRPs) and community mental health centers.

The quality of supported employment services has continued to improve through on-site training and technical assistance provided by the Wyoming Institute for Disabilities (WIND). Housed at the University of Wyoming, WIND was created in part with startup funds provided by the Department of Workforce Services' Vocational Rehabilitation Division.

In addition, the Wyoming Business Leadership Network (WBLN) is another program strongly supported by VR. The WBLN improves supported employment services via their feasibility awareness training provided to community employers. The WBLN is an employer-driven organization aimed at fulfillment of employer disability training and educational needs.

Wyoming's supported employment system continues to grow and has successfully captured the support and creative resourcefulness of hundreds of front-line rehabilitation professionals, administrators/policymakers, parents, businessmen and women, public schools, and advocacy groups state-wide. This team effort has touched the lives of many individuals with significant disabilities who enjoy improved personal independence, self-sufficiency, earned income, and personal pride.
