Cheyenne Workforce Center To Perform First Community Service Project With Summer Youth Program
CHEYENNE - The Department of Workforce Services' Cheyenne Workforce Center will be participating in the first community engagement of the summer, a component to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Summer Youth Program, Friday June 4th from 8am until 5pm. Over 20 youth are volunteering their time to help clean up the Crow Creek area along the Greenway close to Parsley Boulevard. The City of Cheyenne is providing trash bags and gloves for the community service project. More youth are expected to participate.
Joan Evans, Director for the Department of Workforce Services, is proud of the Summer Youth Program and the experiences it offers youth. "The Department of Workforce Services' Summer Youth Employment program incorporates a holistic approach by offering youth, age 14-24 that meet eligibility requirements, leadership skills, workforce readiness skills, community engagements and service, and a 400-hour work experience." The program began May 1st and will continue through September 30th.
Andrea Hixon, Center Manager for the Department of Workforce Services is excited to kick off the summer with the event. "We're looking forward to the community service clean up event at Crow Creek on Friday and hope this experience will plant a seed with our youth on how beneficial community service is to the City of Cheyenne."
