Tapscott Tapped as Keynote Speaker for Governor's Workforce Solutions Summit

With a floundering national economy in recession, and now showing signs of adversely affecting Wyoming, the 2009 Governor's Summit on Workforce Solutions has even more importance for both businesses and their employees.

This year's Summit, to be held May 26-28 at the Snow King Resort in Jackson is entitled, "Innovate: Survive and Thrive in Wyoming's New Frontier."

Jerimiah Rieman with the Wyoming Department of Workforce Solutions and organizer of the 2009 Summit says this will be the most relevant workforce solutions-oriented conference any business or employer could attend this year.

This year's keynote speaker is Don Tapscott, an internationally renowned authority on the strategic value and impact of information technology in today's business economy. He has authored or co-authored 11 books. He is currently heading up four multi-million dollar research programs related to business.

Rieman said, "He (Tapscott) is a wonderful addition to this years Summit. He will talk about social media and the (internet) generation, the current generation of young people (ages 15-32) that have grown up with digital technology all their lives." Rieman also said Tapscott will share his secrets of how companies can win and harness the power of the human capital of these individuals."

Joan Evans, Director of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, said, "The Summit provides an opportunity for the business community to hear from a variety of speakers on workforce related issues, as well as tap into available resources available through state government, training providers, economic development and others."

The Summit is also an opportunity for employers and employees to explore and proactively address issues confronting them in today's economy. Businesses across the country continue to struggle with finding and retaining skilled talent. Rieman said, "Our ability to collaborate and develop strategic partnerships will determine if we can survive and thrive in the global market."
