The Employment and Training for Self-Sufficiency Program helps low-income parents gain the training and skills necessary to enter higher-paying careers through a combination of job training and placement, life-skills development, education assistance, parenting training and group and individual counseling. Those who are eligible for the program are parenting adults who, depending on their family size, are earning below 185 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. A participant can be referred to the program by contacting a Training Contractor.

The Employment and Training for Self-Sufficiency program is funded by Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.

What do I need to know about preparing the application?

  • The application must be submitted on the official application form
  • The business is encouraged to enroll in Electronic Funds Transfer through the Wyoming State Auditor's Office

Who is eligible to apply? Proposals will be accepted from any entity, except state or federal agencies.

Who will need to be involved in completing the application for Employment and Training for Self-Sufficiency Program funds? Employment and Training for Self-Sufficiency Program Grant applications are completed by the potential contractor providing the training and the local Workforce Center.

How will the application be approved? After submission of the completed application, the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services will closely screen applications for compliance with the requirements listed in the application instructions.

Gender Wage Equity

Gender wage disparity programs seek to decrease the gender wage gap in Wyoming by providing female parenting adults with training in non-traditional occupations. Employment and Training for Self-Sufficiency Program training programs provide full-time case managers that provide services to single parenting females. The case managers focus on the family as a whole and they work with families as partners in identifying and meeting needs. Services that are timely, flexible, coordinated and accessible to participants include:

  • Identifying and enhancing family strengths to solve problems which compromise the family's functioning and well-being;
  • Developing a family service plan to include strategies to alleviate problems;
  • Determining appropriate goals and steps needed to achieve the goals identified;
  • Providing, coordinating and referring participants to other community services that may be able to provide assistance

Job Training

The vocational job training programs will help income eligible parenting adults develop skills so they can increase their wages.
