UI Benefits Timeline
Wyoming's Unemployment Insurance system requires that each separate Unemployment Insurance (UI) program be individually programmed and implemented. The order for the implementation is: Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC); Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC); Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA); and then Multiple Earner Unemployment Compensation (MEUC).
Creation of law
These changes to the UI system are dictated by federal law. Creating the law does not immediately make the programs available. The law directs state UI systems to create processes to distribute the funds made available by the law.
Department of Labor guidance -- estimated duration: up to two weeks
All states must receive guidance from the U.S. Department of Labor before administering federal UI benefits.
Program the WYUI system -- estimated duration: two to eight weeks
The UI computer system is extremely complex, and the changes necessary to redefine the eligibility of claimants involves rewriting tens of thousands of lines of code. Technicians work on the programming changes around the clock.
Testing the system -- estimated duration: one day to a week
Note: If problems are discovered during testing, we will have to revert back to the programming step
If the system passes the tests, it can be opened to process UI claims. If the testing reveals problems, though, the technicians must return to the programming step and rewrite code to fix the problems the testing uncovered.
When the system is available to claimants, DWS will announce its availability on this page, and claimants will be able to access it through their WYUI.wyo.gov accounts.
4/8/2021 - Attention UI Claimants: All claimants will now see a ReCaptcha screen when filing new or continued claims. This is a necessary fraud prevention step, but ReCaptcha requires your browser to be compatible.
Minimum browser requirements:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer: Version 11
- Mozilla Firefox: Version 27
- Google Chrome: Version 30
- Apple Safari: OS X 10.9, iOS 5
To find your version of your browser, follow these steps:
Microsoft Internet Explorer: Click the gear icon in the upper right corner, then click "About Internet Explorer," or from the menu bar, click "Help" (or "Tools"), then click "About Internet Explorer."
Mozilla Firefox: Select the Help menu, then click "About Firefox."
Google Chrome: Click the menu icon in the upper right corner, then click "Help," then "About Google Chrome."
Apple Safari (Mac OS): Select "Safari," then click "About Safari."
If your version is not upgraded to the minimum browser specifications listed above, download and install the newest version before you complete your PUA application.
2/19/2021 - DWS now paying Pandemic Unemployment Assistance
2/10/2021 - PUA claimants, please be advised that we have had to return to the programming phase of reprogramming the PUA system. Our programmers are working diligently to implement the system as quickly as possible.
We will provide an update and explain the documentation you will need to file a PUA claim during our Virtual Town Hall presentation on Thursday, Feb. 18. Register here for the Virtual Town Hall.
1/26/2021 - PEUC will be available early the week of Feb. 1, and eligible PEUC claims will be paid by the end of that week. Please check back here often for further updates.
1/15/2021 - The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services has begun issuing payments to Unemployment Insurance (UI) claimants for Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC). This program provides $300 per week in addition to each claimant's UI benefit.
This additional benefit is applied automatically to all UI claims that are receiving at least $1 in benefits. There is no need to file an additional application for this benefit, and the first payment will include back pay for eligible claims back to Dec. 27.
At this time, only UI claimants receiving regular Wyoming UI benefits will receive the FPUC payments, though DWS is working diligently to provide assistance to those eligible for the federal UI programs. These include Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) and the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC). Those programs ended on Dec. 26, 2020, and the extension of both programs for up to 11 weeks took effect Dec. 27. When the system reprogramming is complete, the FPUC payments will be automatically applied to claimants filing under those programs, as well. DWS will post updates on the status of the system updates on this page.
1/5/2021 - The Department of Workforce Services has received guidance from the United States Department of Labor regarding the COVID-19 relief bill and we are working diligently to implement that guidance and make the required changes to the computer programming. This may take several weeks or even longer than a month to complete.
If you are filing for payment on a PUA claim, please wait to file until further notice. We will post an update on this feed as well as a message on WyomingWorkforce.org when filing for payment is available.
Claimants who are filing for payment on PEUC claims may continue to file, but please note that payment will not be available until updates to the UI computer system are completed.
Claimants who are filing for payment on regular UI claims, or filing new claims for regular Wyoming UI, may continue to file and these claims should not be delayed.
To determine which type of UI a claimant is receiving, navigate to the Inquiry page on WYUI.wyo.gov. The Inquiry page will display the type of claim being received.
Stimulus checks do not need to be reported as income when filing claims for payment.
